MAK x MINI collaboration.

Mak x Mini

A collaboration between Lauren & Mikayla. Hand painted with a vision and a message. Every pair is different and tells its own story. I’m so excited to be sharing her talent with you.

Meet Mak

From a very young age, I’ve been involved in the arts. Through years of dancing, I became aware of my craving for expression. I began doodling and sketching to express my thoughts and feelings. Although I struggled to find the words, my artwork became a means of release for my emotions. The support of family, friends and friends of friends built up my confidence. Eventually I came to the realization that my art is a part of me, and it’s a part of me that thrives.

Upon this realization I began dedicating my life to my work. My artwork became my passion, education, job and my drive to become even better. Now finishing up my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at SUNY Oswego, I’m preparing to start the road to my Master’s degree in pursuit to become an art teacher and help children find their passion for the arts while nurturing my own.

After returning from a trip to Italy, I’ve become devoted to and particularly focused on ceramics. The Italian artwork, people and culture spurred my appreciation for authenticity and the beauty of molding media with my bare hands. Outside of working with clay, I am keen on drawing and painting. Being able to incorporate techniques from all of these mediums into one pair of earrings has been gratifying. With that said, I hope you enjoy these little works of art as much as I enjoyed making them alongside Mini.

Meet Mini

As a young girl I was always a bit in the clouds. Everyday was a new song and the color of the world shone bright and vibrant. Though i’ve never been able to draw a vase of flowers as it sits in front of me, my hands have always longed to create.

My journey in art started with singing. Music was and still is one of the biggest expressions of who I am, to get lost in song is how i’d often spend my days. It wasn’t until my year abroad, living in India, that art poured out through my hands. I have this vivid memory of skipping school and taking art classes with pre schoolers in a local woman’s living room in Surat, Gujarat. That is where my love for Mehndi was born.

As I progressed in art, fashion, and music, I found myself attracted the endless opportunity of a blank canvas. That is where polymer clay became a friend of mine. The ability to create such magic and let it dangle from your ears, well that’s something special.

It has been an honor to create the canvas that Mak gets to paint and draw on. We hope you love these collections as much as we do.
